The Deciding Factor
Many factors need to be taken into consideration to ensure a good fit in your car. The primary factor in deciding which car seat is right for you is your child's weight.
Car seats are categorised into the following stages: -

Stage 0+ 0-13kg Birth - 1 Year approx
This class of car seat is from birth to I year. The points discussed in the previous article should be considered. Namely do you want to integrate you car seat with your pushchair or pram. If the answer is yes then you will obviously restrict yourself to the same manufacturer as your pushchair. All that aside there are some great products to choose from at Baby & Co.
These are two very different options but offer great features and benefits to the customer. The Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio is a stylish and secure rear facing infant carrier designed and built to superior specifications. The Simple Surefix One Click System is compatible with all Mamas and Papas pushchairs and chassis to create a Travel System, excluding Twin Aria. The Surefix Base remains fitted in you car allowing easy installation and removal. For customers with more than one vehicle additional bases can be purchased, which is great for visiting grandparents. Due to the clever design of this car seat it can be used as a car seat, travel system, rocking or stationary low chair. The Primo Viaggio features luxurious hand washable padded covers, comfort pad, head hugger, chest pads and buckle pad, a large removable canopy hood and spacious seat with deep side wings. The Surefix Base ensures correct fitting. And with the handle of the Primo Viaggio positioned against the back of the adult seat this acts as an anti-rotation device and provides greater protection for your baby. The "One Pull" harness adjuster with "right first time" buckle ensures your baby is always secure. The three point safety harness can be adjusted to three shoulder height positions.

The Britax Cosi Tot Premium has been especially designed to give increased side impact protection
The Cosi Tot fits with all Britax Travel System to create a total travel solution for your baby. The Cosi Tot features ASIS - Advanced Side Impact System Deep, softly padded side wings for optimum side impact protection. Newborn support with integral pad offers extra support and allows your baby to lie in a more natural sleeping position. A sun/wind canopy offers your baby extra protection from the elements and an easily adjusted 3-point one-pull harness ensures your baby is secure in this car seat. Finally, the infant carrier has a comfortable carrying handle and a head support provides additional support for newborns.

A new manufacturer for us is Recaro. Recaro comes to the child car seat market with a wealth of experience in adult car seat manufacture, whether for racing cars or aircraft. The reason we like these seats is not only because of their high quality production but the ISOFIX option is very economical. Recaro offer an ISOFIX base that can be used for the 0+ car seat the Recaro Young Profi but after your child out grows his or her 0+ car seat and moves on to the next stage, Stage 1, the base can be utilised with the Recaro Young Expert. Allowing you to continue to use ISOFIX.

Stage 0+1 0-18kg Birth - 4 Years approx
In this category there are not many options which is why Britax are really the only manufacturer that off this class of car seat. The Britax First Class is a versatile combination seat. It is installed rear facing for your newborn, and forward facing from 9kg. With the added benefit of Britax's ASIS - Advanced Side Impact System and deep softly padded side wings for optimum side impact protection. This car seat is ideal if your child has outgrown an infant carrier but is not yet ready to travel forward facing. When rear facing, the unique extended recline position combines with the newborn insert for a more natural sleeping position. Compatible with wider range of car models as the alternative seat-belt route suits cars with longer seat belt buckles. The slim base gives a good fit in modern sculpted car seats From 9kg onwards the First Class can be installed as a forward facing seat provided your child can confidently sit unaided When forward facing the 5 positions ensure a comfortable journey for your child whether awake or asleep, playing or dozing.

Stage 1 9-18kg 9 Months - 4 Years approx
In the hugely competitive stage 1 market we feel that several manufacturers should be mentioned, including Britax, Recaro, Maxi-Cosi and Mamas and Papas. In this stage there are two ISOFIX options we offer, the Recaro Young Expert and the Britax Duo Plus ISOFIX. Both offer exceptional levels of comfort and safety.
We also like the Mamas and Papas Pro-Tec for its simplicity and easy of fitting, and the Britax Renaissance for its comfort and design. The Britax Renaissance has the benefit of the Britax Adjust-a-fit System there are no fiddly harness and headrest height adjustments. As your child grows you simply re-adjust both by moving one lever. The other important feature on the Britax Renaissance is the unique seat-belt tensioner that ensures the seat is firmly secured in the car. Additionally the seat of the Renaissance can be moved to one of five positions, from upright to reclined, after installation without disturbing your child.

Stage 1+2+3 9-36kg 9 Months - 11 Years approx
Since the introduction of the latest car seat legislation there has been a huge increase in the demand for this class of car seat and in particular the Britax Evolva 123 and Britax Evolva Ultra 123. The construction of both the seats is the same, however the Ultra offers a higher quality fabric with comfi-care zones using pressure mapping for a more comfortable journey and cooling zones. The Britax Evolva 123 has an innovative ergonomic design developed to create a seat that grows with the child providing maximum protection and ultimate comfort.

Stage 2+3 15 - 36kg 4 Years - 11 Years
The story in this class is very much similar to the previous one and Britax offer the perfect solution once more. The Britax Evolva 2,3 and Evolva Ultra 2,3. The Evolva 23 Ultra offers excellent all round protection and adapts to your growing child. The construction of both the seats is the same, however the Ultra offers a higher quality fabric with comfi-care zones using pressure mapping for a more comfortable journey and cooling zones.

Booster Seats 3 15-36kg 4 Years - 11 Years
The Britax Sprint Booster Seat is another new addition to the Britax range. The Britax Sprint is designed to position the lap section of the seat belt correctly over your child's pelvis and include a special guide to position the diagonal seat belt correctly over the child's shoulder. With the added benefits of a pull out drink holder and snack tray, adjustable armrests for comfort on a long journey and a belt guide positions the diagonal seat belt correctly over child's shoulder. There is also the Britax Horizon which offer similar features at more of a budget
