A Guide To Cots & Cotbeds

Next to your pushchair this may be your most expensive purchase. So getting it right first time is very important. The first decision before we start to look at manufactures and styles is whether you want a cot or a cot bed? There could be a few deciding factors that would make you decide on a cot rather than a cotbed. These could include space, cotbeds tend to be much larger than cots so if baby's bedroom is a little small then a cot could be ideal. Budget could also be a factor, cots can be significantly cheaper than cotbeds or you may also already have a single bed in which case a cotbed would be a little unnecessary. Cots can be used from birth up until around 2 years. After this time you would be ready to move onto a single bed. The base heights can be adjusted on most cots and also most have dropsides allowing you to easily put baby in or lift out. Some also have single handed dropsides allowing you to operate whilst holding baby. We particularly like the Cosatto Claremont Cot it is quite simply a beautiful, elegant cot. It is beautifully crafted from solid pine in a light country finish. Its gently curved profile will give any nursery a touch of class. We also like the Mamas and Papas Alicia cot. We are finding more and more customers choosing cotbeds over cots purely for the economics. Whereas a cot will last from birth to 2 years approximately a cotbed will last right up to 5 or 6 years, this makes the cotbed much better value. The cotbed starts off in cot mode and after a few years the long sides are removed and it converts into your child's first bed. This can also ease your child from the comfort of a cot into the grown up world of his or her first bed. Mamas and Papas offer many cotbeds and your choice maybe determined by your overall choice of room furniture. You will obviously want your cotbed to match with your dresser, wardrobe and other items you may have chosen. We also offer a stand alone cotbed, the Mamas and Papas Eloise combines practicality with style. Eloise cotbed has slatted ends, ensuring that your baby is visible from all sides, it's the ideal place for a restful night's sleep.
